The MSI B650M PROJECT ZERO is a micro-ATX AM5 motherboard built around a back-connect layout that moves major power, fan and front-panel connections to the rear of the board. The result is a cleaner-looking build with fewer visible cables across the front of the chassis, provided the case supports rear-connector motherboards.
The board supports AMD Ryzen 7000, 8000 and 9000 Series desktop processors and uses DDR5 memory, with four DIMM slots and support for high overclocked memory speeds. Two PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots provide fast NVMe storage, while four SATA ports support additional drives.
Networking is well covered with 2.5Gb Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. Rear connectivity includes USB options up to 20Gbps, along with HDMI and DisplayPort for processors that include integrated graphics.
The cooling design includes an extended heatsink, M.2 Shield Frozr and dedicated fan and pump headers, making the board suitable for gaming and performance-oriented AM5 builds. MSI also includes Flash BIOS, EZ Debug LEDs and a pre-installed I/O shield to simplify setup and troubleshooting.
The key compatibility point is the PROJECT ZERO back-connect design. Buyers should pair this board with a chassis that provides access behind the motherboard tray for the relocated connectors. In the right case, it offers a clean AM5 build with strong networking, storage and DDR5 support.
