The HIKSEMI MH1 M.2 SSD Cooler Heatsink is a compact aluminium-alloy heatsink designed for M.2 2280 NVMe SSDs. Its purpose is simple: draw heat away from the SSD during sustained workloads so the drive can operate more consistently in gaming PCs, desktops and compatible PlayStation 5 installations.
Modern NVMe SSDs can generate noticeable heat during large file transfers, game installations, content creation and other sustained storage activity. When temperatures rise too far, some drives reduce performance to protect themselves. The MH1 adds a dedicated metal heat spreader and thermal pad around the SSD to improve heat transfer away from the controller and NAND components.
HIKSEMI lists compatibility with standard 22 × 80mm M.2 2280 SSDs between 2mm and 4mm in height. This makes the heatsink suitable for a broad range of single-sided and compatible double-sided NVMe drives, provided there is enough physical clearance in the host device.
The unit measures approximately 73 × 22 × 9mm and weighs 23.8g, so it adds relatively little bulk to the installed SSD. HIKSEMI states a temperature-reduction capability of up to 25°C under suitable conditions, although real-world results depend on the SSD, workload and airflow in the system.
A thermal pad is included to simplify installation. Before fitting the MH1, confirm both M.2 2280 compatibility and the available clearance around the drive, especially in compact motherboards or console storage bays.
Portable storage works best when the drive is used with a suitable cable and a host port that supports the intended speed. Keeping some free space on the SSD also helps maintain practical performance during large transfers. For important files, use the drive as one part of a backup routine rather than the only copy of the data.
For large transfers, the fastest results come from connecting the drive directly to a suitable high-speed port rather than through an older hub or adapter. Portable SSDs are especially useful for users who move between systems, carry project files off-site or keep a secondary local backup alongside cloud storage.
